Hello

RIGHTS OF WAY CLOSURES & INFO

Sometimes the byways open to all traffic [BOATS] and droves are closed for maintenance or due to large influx of people on Solstices - you will note that a blanket TRO for the whole WHS due to the plans for the new visitor centre, is part of a planning Inquiry - see relevant pages on this site - for any queries:

"TTROs" are temporary Traffic Regulation Orders made under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, applied when it is necessary to control traffic along a right of way.

Wiltshire Council provide a searchable register of temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in place across the County.

VISITOR CENTRE Up Date June 2011. E/H now has the £10 million to match the lottery money promised if its matched, this would give them a new pot of £20 ml to share out and spend. New Visitor Centre plans met huge opposition from many different organisations and those who visit Stonehenge. The Application has been approved subject to many amendments, which came out of the complaints and objections during the consultation - so we have had some effect - we await the final decisions as to what differences will be made! xxx Also the [TRO] Traffic Regulatory Order that no parking should be allowed on the whole WHS site met with as much opposition as the Visitor Centre. BOTH PLANS are now are awaiting the date for a non statutory Public inquiry some time in 2011. Hopefully one Inspector will hear both Inquiries - stand by for further info!
