PREVIOUS INFO -  VISITOR CENTRE

Up Date June 2011.  [see other  Stonehenge pages A   B  & C and NEWS top of this page]

E/H now has the £10 million to match the lottery money promised if its matched, this would give them a new pot of £20 ml to share out and spend.

New Visitor Centre plans met huge opposition from many different organisations and those who visit Stonehenge. The Application has been approved subject to many amendments, which came out of the complaints and objections during the consultation - so we have had some effect - we await the final decisions as to what differences will be made!

xxx

Also the [TRO] Traffic Regulatory Order that no parking should be allowed on the whole WHS site  met with as much opposition as the Visitor Centre.

BOTH PLANS are now are awaiting the date for a

non statutory Public inquiry some time in 2011. Hopefully one Inspector will hear both Inquiries - stand by for further info!

Jan 2016 Totem markers are still awaited after grassing over of old A344 road

March 2013 - reply  toSGWI query to English Heritage  re future of TOTEM POLES' markers in present Stonehenge car park

According to the planners, the developers will mark the Mesolithic post holes and tree throws with some sensitively designed low level markers. The design is still being worked out. They will be representative of the items that once stood there but will not seek to replicate them. They will not be like the markers at Stonehenge.
